CARE FOR YOUR LOG CABIN

We do hope you are happy with your new log cabin.  These are extremely durable easily maintained buildings.  Below we have listed some points as a guide to maintaining your cabin in pristine condition.

  1. As wood is a natural product, some splits or cracks will and do occur, this will have no effect on stability and dependent on weather conditions may even close up again.
  2. Before treating your new building we recommend filling any obvious cracks with Fleetwood natural wood filler then on the outside only treat your building with Bondex or Sadolin oil based preservative using a colour of your choice.  This is very easy to apply and if using a wide brush the job will be done in no time.  Do pay particular attention to the end grain at the corners, dab them with the treatment and when you’re finished the building re-treat the corners.  Treatment needs to be done soon after assembly, again within a year then every few years.
  3. Internally we recommend using Ronseal water based floor varnish on the floor only.  The remaing walls etc. do not need any form of treatment.  If you do desire you could treat the walls with linseed oil.
  4. If you do not use your log cabin on a regular basis, it is a good idea to prop the doors and windows open on a good drying day or keep a small storage heater on a low setting.  Prolonged periods especially in winter with no air exchange can create dampness just as it would in your home if left unattended.
  5. If your door sticks or catches this can easily be adjusted at the hinge.
  6. It is a good idea to oil the hinges on your doors and windows
