1) Are customised buildings available?
Yes, the majority of our buildings are designed to the customer’s specifications whether it’s an open plan building with ten windows or a six room building with two floors we will assist and advise to provide your dream log cabin.
2) What are log cabins used for?
The uses for Barna Building log cabins are endless i.e.: office, granny flat, music room, gym, bar, therapy room the possibilities are endless.
3) How long from time of order to construction?
Our standard buildings are usually in stock and can normally be delivered within a few weeks. As our customised buildings are crafted for your particular needs it takes a little longer, usually six to eight weeks.
4) How are they insulated?
With our standard buildings you can choose to insulate roof and/or floor and these are priced separately. Our customised prices include both roof and floor insulation. Our floor insulation is 50mm aero board placed directly beneath the T&G flooring. We offer a choice of two types of roof insulation:
- We fill the area between the ceiling joists with Rockwool then create a ceiling with T&G. However you do loose some of your head room height and the exposed ceiling joists are covered over.
- Our most popular method is to use 2L2 this is a double bubble wrap with reflective foil on both sides, it is used on top of the outer layer of felt and sandwiched between it and either your onduline or tile effect roof cladding. This does not affect the internal look of the building, maintaining the exposed beams.
5) How are log buildings heated?
Log cabins by nature are very easy to heat most conventional forms of heating are sufficient. Any form of gas heating is not recommended as they cause excessive condensation. The most popular are small storage heaters.
6) What kind of timber is used?
The timber used in the Barna Building cabins is slow growing dense grained timber ideal for cabin construction.
7) How long do log buildings last?
A properly maintained spruce log building will last a life time. People live in them for generations.
8) How are log building treated?
The foundation beams are pressure treated. The rest of the building is fully kiln dried to 17 – 18%. The building will require an oil based treatment (Bondex or Sadolin) with a colour of your choice on all external parts this can be done every couple of years.
9) What roof claddings are available?
Our Hollywood has a felt shingle roof. All the other buildings are priced including a corrugated black onduline covering with a felt underlay. For an additional charge you can have a steel tile effect roof, of your chosen colour.
10) What kind of windows are provided?
Our smaller standard buildings are single glazed tilt/turn. Our customised range come double glazed and we can provide almost any size or shape.
11) What is the thickness of the wall?
On our standard smaller cabins the walls are 44mm in thickness and double grooved this is more than sufficient for these size buildings. With our customised cabins you can choose from a 70mm, 90mm or 116mm wall beam, which means there is no need for further wall insulation.
12) What foundations are required?
This is usually not a problem but will vary from site to site. Most importantly the site must be level, for smaller cabins and if the ground is solid we can build your cabin on rows of paving slabs (provided by the customer). We may suggest hard covering the area and in some situations a concrete slab is required. Barna Buidings provide a base laying service and a representative can call free of charge and without obligation to discuss queries relating to site, cost, etc.
13) Do you need planning permission?
The general rule is any building under 25m2 and less than 3.9m high to the side or rear of your house does not require planning permission. All our standard buildings come under this category however Bara Buildings do advice customers to talk with their local authority as their situation may be different. Planning permission is the customer’s responsibility.
14) Can I erect my building myself?
Barna Buildings are happy to supply a building flat packed with instructions for assembly. However our carpenters are fully trained in cabin assembly and take a lot of pride in doing the job well.
15) What deposit is required?
For our 'Standard Range' 10% must be paid on the day of order.

must be paid on the day of order.
The balance to be paid on
the day of completion.
